Philomena "Phyllis" (Defilippo) King, 84 of Worcester formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 6, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis's husband of thirty-nine years, Thomas J. King passed away on September 7, 2001. She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. King of Southbridge and Ernest E. King and his wife Mary of Worcester; a daughter, Lori King of Worcester; three sisters, Ann Bembenek of Webster, Dora Titchen of Quinebaug, CT and Evelyn Defilippo of Charlton; a grandson, Thomas Pelletier of Dudley; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a daughter, Theresa King; five brothers, Anthony, Dominic, Samuel, Alphonse and Rocco Defilippo; a sister, Mary Heywosz. Phyllis was born in Grosvenordale, Connecticut, a daughter of the late Ralph and Antoinette (Alberti) Defilippo. She graduated from St. Joseph School. She lived in Shrewsbury and Worcester most of her life. She worked as a cafeteria worker for the Shrewsbury School System for fifteen years before she retired in 1990. After retirement, she worked at Au Bon Pain coffee shop. Phyllis was a member of St. Stephen's Church. She enjoyed bingo, the casino, reading and spending time with family and friends. Services for Phyllis will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 9th from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
