Joshua R. Ayisi, 64 of Worcester, formerly of Adukrom-Akuapem, Ghana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at home surrounded by his wonderful family. Joshua is survived by his loving wife of thirty-one years, Martha Johnson Ayisi; a son, Richard Ayisi Johnson of Worcester; two daughters, Erica Ayisi of New York City, NY and Charity Duncan and her husband Seth of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, King, Duke, Laud and David Duncan and Amya Johnson; two brothers, Kwabena and Kwasi Ayisi; eight sisters, Agnes, Joana, Esther, Janet, Alice, Felicia, Sarah, and Dora Ayisi; many nieces and nephews. Joshua was born and raised in Adukrom-Akuapem, Ghana, and a son of the late Francis and Mercy Ayisi. Joshua received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Animal Science from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. He later received a Master of Science degree in Animal Physiology from Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Joshua worked as a Respiratory Therapist for UMASS Memorial Hospital for twenty-one years before he retired in 2010. He also worked for Leominster Hospital, Clinton Hospital and Framingham Union Hospital. Joshua was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church of Marlborough where he was a lay reader, a Lay Eucharist minister and a member of the Vestry. As a global traveler he visited London, Paris, Switzerland, and Amsterdam. He also traveled as a missionary to do ministry work at Adukrom Presbyterian School and St. Mary's Church in the Fumesua region of Ghana. He was an avid reader especially about philosophy. He enjoyed kayaking, soccer, watching the news and debating politics and current events. Services for Joshua will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a funeral service at 11:00a.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 52 Church St., Marlborough, MA. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery, Worcester, MA. A period of calling hours will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 9-10 a.m. in the funeral home. The family has requested that the preferred attire for the funeral is black and white. The tradition final funeral rites celebration will be held on Saturday, August 25th from 8:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour Cultural Center, 34 Boynton St., Worcester.
