Loretta C. (Crapolicchio) Meringolo, 96, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, loving mother and grandmother passed away Monday, July 2nd in her home with her devoted daughter at her side. Loretta was born in Worcester, one of six children of Richard and Christina (Balsamo) Crapolicchio. In 1943, she married Joseph J. Meringolo Sr. Together they made a home in Shrewsbury where Loretta lived for more than 56 years. She and her husband were married for 49 years. Loretta was an employee of State Mutual for many years. Loretta was a member of St. Mary's Church. She cherished her Italian roots and held on to those traditions throughout her life. She loved to cook, sew, read, and especially loved to be surrounded by her family. Her family was her inspiration and greatest joy in life. She cherished family holidays and gatherings. Loretta's husband Joseph J. Meringolo Sr. passed away in February of 1992. She is survived by her three children, Joseph J. Meringolo Jr. and his wife Christine Ann Meringolo of Johnstown Ohio, Thomas R. Meringolo of Newton and Christine M. Meringolo of Webster; two grandchildren who she cherished and who cherished her, Lisa C. Meringolo and Steven J. Meringolo along with his wife Jillian Meringolo; a great grandson Jadon Laflamme; her best friends, dogs Blu and Buggs; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Her three brothers, Valentino "Val" Capra, Dante Capra and Armando Capra and two sisters, Rachel Lobo and Antoinette Romano have all preceded her in death. Calling hours for Loretta will be held Monday, July 9th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL at 370 Plantation Street in Worcester, MA. Mass will be held at 11:00 am at St Mary's Church at 640 Main Street in Shrewsbury, MA. with private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
