George M. Abodeely, Jr. 72, of West Boylston, formerly of Worcester, passed away Saturday June 30th 2012 in the UMASS Medical Center after a brief illness. His beloved daughter Jacqueline, brother Bill and sister Elaine were at his side. George was born in Worcester, the oldest of three children, of George M. Abodeely, Sr and Sally (Aramony) Abodeely. He graduated from Worcester Academy Class of 1958 where he was active in sports. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Columbia University in 1962 where he participated in the Glee Club. He remained active with the university, his classmates and fraternity Beta Theta Pi over the years. George served in the U.S. Army Reserve after college. After college, George joined the Insurance company his father and mother established in 1940, G.M. Abodeely Insurance Agency, Inc. and served as President for 46 years. He was widely known throughout New England for his knowledge of surety and provided surety bonds to numerous construction projects including the first two phases of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in the late 1960's and early 1970's, sections of the Massachusetts Turnpike, as well as many public and university structures seen throughout New England. He is survived by the daughter he cherished , Jacqueline Abodeely of Boston; his two beloved siblings, Elaine Saliba and her husband Najib, William J. Abodeely and his wife MaryAnn (Atkinson) all of Shrewsbury; several nephews and nieces, extended family and numerous friends and associates. George was a compassionate man with an infectious, warm smile and big heart. He would bring laughter to any room with his adventure stories. He loved Fly-fishing with his friends in Canada, Scotland, Alaska and various spots throughout New England. He had an active membership with the Miramichi Salmon Assocation. He also enjoyed hunting, reading, cooking and travel. He was a licensed Pilot and member of AOPA , a member of The 200 Foundation in Framingham, MA that supports mental health services, a longtime member of Worcester Country Club, and a lifetime member and past board member of the YMCA of Worcester. George's church was special to him. He was a very active member and participant in St George Orthodox Cathedral, where he served as a board member, member of the choir and served as President of the Parish Council. He was a member of its Men's Club and Order of St. Ignatius of Antioch. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Thursday, July 5th from 3 pm to 7 pm and Friday July 6th from 9:30 am to 10:15 am in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. His funeral service will be celebrated at 10:30 am Friday. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
