Mary R. (Rexine) Pappas, 93, of Fitchburg, a dedicated, wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 27th 2012 in the Life Care of Leominster. Mary was born in Boston a daughter of the late George J. and Katarina (Geanatakis) Rexine. She was raised and grew up in Boston, graduated from Boston Latin High School. Mary then met and married the love of her life and husband of 34 years James V. Pappas who passed away May 14th 1986 and has lived in Fitchburg ever since. Mary is survived by her devoted and dedicated daughter Kathryn "Kathie" L'Abbe with whom she lived; two grandchildren, Michele Higginson and Steven L'Abbe; great grandchildren, Erin Carney, Christina Higginson and Nicholas L'Abbe; a sister in law, Eugenia Pappas; Many nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her husband, James V. Pappas, Mary was pre deceased by her son in law Lionel A. L'Abbe and two sisters, Lillian R. Blake and Betty G. Mahers. During Mary's employed years she worked as an assembler for the Sylvania Corporation before retiring. Mary was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, its ladies church host society "Lpis" and Ladies Hope Society. She was also a member of the friends of Fitchburg Public Library. A funeral service will be held Monday, July 2nd at 11:00 am in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1319 Main Street Fitchburg. Burial will follow next to her husband James in Forest Hills Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:45 am prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the James V Pappas Scholarship Fund, care of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1319 Main St Fitchburg. Mary's daughter Kathie would like to thank Dr Iris Sullivan and the Staff of life Care of Leominster for the care, compassion and understanding they gave to Mary.
