Raymond E. Sbrogna, 77, of Worcester, died peacefully Thursday May 31, 2012 in St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his loving family. His wife Ruth "Snooky" (Maloney) Sbrogna died in 2002. Ray is survived by a son Paul J. Sbrogna and his wife Lindalee of Worcester, a daughter Donna M. Benard and her husband Bruce of Worcester, three grandchildren; Tommy, Leah, and Brandon, and a great grand son Daymon. Raymond is also survived by two brothers Richard and Vincent Sbrogna both in Florida, and a sister Mary Greaney of Holyoke, also a special sister in law, Carol Weldon, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister Phyllis Colangelo. Raymond was born in Worcester son of the late Emilio and Anna (DiGregorio) Sbrogna and lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School. Raymond worked in the Composing room at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette for over 40 years before he retired. He was a long time member of Our Lady of Providence/ St.Bernard's Church, and also a member of the Pope John Council XX111 Knights of Columbus and served as a Grand Knight. Ray enjoyed watching his New England sports teams, and loved his trips to Florida with Snooky ,which they did for many years, however his most enjoyable times were those spent with his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Ray's family would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses and staff members at St. Vincent Hospital for all their kindness and compassion shown to them and Raymond during his stay there. Raymond's funeral will be held Tuesday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Lady of Providence 228 Lincoln St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be on Monday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a charity of choice. Members of the Pope John Council XX111 will meet at the funeral home at 6:30PM for a Ritual.
