Thomas J. Romano

Dr. Thomas J. Romano, 75, of Worcester , died peacefully Friday May 18, 2012 in the Worcester Medical Center, St. Vincent's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by a sister Marianna LaCanfora and her husband Samuel of Shrewsbury, and his best friend and long time companion Charlotte Adams of Worcester, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother Andrew Romano Jr. and a sister Christine D'Ostuni. Thomas was born in Worcester son of the late Andrew and Antoinette(Capolicchio) Romano and lived here all his life. He was a graduate of North High School. Thomas was a graduate of Holy Cross College class of 1958. He received a Masters Degree in Education from Clark University, and also earned a Masters Degree and Certificate of advanced graduate study in Guidance from Assumption College. Thomas then went on to further his education and received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1985. Thomas was employed in the Guidance Department by the Worcester Public Schools for 38 years. He retired in 1999 from the position of Director of Guidance for Doherty Memorial High School. Thomas was a long time member and benefactor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church through his Charitable Lead Unitrust Fund, and was also a benefactor to the Venerini Sisters Retirement Fund for many years. Even after retirement Thomas continued to contribute to many charitable organizations. He was a firm believer in Education and for this reason he established College Funds for all of his 13 nephews and nieces. He was a member of the Educational Association of Worcester,The Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the National Educational Association. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday May 23, at 12 noon in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours are private. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery. The family requests flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church Building and Restoration fund. 24 Mullberry St. Worcester, MA. 01604. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. is assisting the family with arrangements.
