Vincent P. Simmarano, 94, of Worcester passed away home to the lord Thursday May 17th 2012 with his family gathered beside him, almost seven years to the day his beloved wife of 63 years Ida J. (DeAngelis) Simmarano passed away. Vinnie's wife of 63 years, Ida (DeAngelis) Simmarano passed away on May 20th 2005. He is survived by the family he loved so much; his sons, Paul F. Simmarano in Orlando, FL, Peter J. Simmarano and his wife Joanne of Worcester; the grandchildren he cherished, Nicole, Paul, Vanesa and Andrew and great grandchildren, Vincenzo and Zoe; two sisters, Irene Chartier of Worcester and Anna Riel of Auburn; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Three brothers, Ricardo, Rocco and Maurice Simmarano and two sisters, Mary Dube and Phyllis Confor all predeceased him. Vincent was born in Worcester, a son of Pietro and Francesca (Deminico) Simmarano. He attended Worcester public school, joining the U.S.Army to serve his country during World War II. Notably during the War, Vinnie took part in the invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach, and several battles in France and Central Europe including the Battle of the bulge as a Combat Engineer Sergeant. Vinnie worked his early years up thru the ranks with Worcester County Electric, Massachusetts Electric now National grid in the Water Heater & Meter Department retiring as foreman in 1979. Just before retirement in 1978, Vinnie founded with his son Peter, S&S Equipment Service, specializing in restaurant repair until 2003, passing control to his son Peter and grandson Andrew. Vinnie was a 50 year member of the Eastside Post 201 American Legion, a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, and it's Holy Name Society; The Pope John Council, Knights of Columbus and 4th degree Bishop O'Reilly Assembly. He was an avid reader and New England Sports Fan. Most of all Vinnie was a loving family man, who cherished his family and friends and found his greatest joy in their company. Vinnie's funeral will be held Tuesday, May 22nd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Entombment will follow in St John Mausoleum. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Monday, May 21st from 5 pm to 8 pm in the funeral home. Members of Eastside Post 201 will meet at 7 pm in the funeral home to conduct their ritual. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Vinnie's name may be made to Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church building fund, 24 Mulberry St.
