Anthony P. Montecalvo

Anthony P. Montecalvo, 87, of Shrewsbury died peacefully Tuesday April 17, 2012 in the UMASS Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Anthony is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Michelena (Cataldo) Montecalvo, a son Anthony Paul Montecalvo and his wife Janet of Keene N.H. three grandsons; Anthony Montecalvo lll, Stephen and Michael Montecalvo all of N.H. two brothers Nicholas Montecalvo of Rutland, and Joseph Montecalvo and his wife Margo of Whitinsville, and a sister Priscilla DiLeo and her husband Frank of White Horse Beach, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother Michael Montecalvo and sister Angelina Lopriore both of Shrewsbury. Anthony was born in Vieste, Italy, son of the late Frank and Libera (Troiano) Montecalvo and came to the United States when he was nine years old. He served in the United States Army during WW11 in the 870th Field Artillery Battalion serving in Belgium,Germany and France. Anthony was a Machinist for the Reed Rolled Thread Company now known as Reed -Rico Company for many years before he retired. Anthony was a member of St. Anne's Church in Shrewsbury for 57 years, he was also a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club and their bowling league. Anthony along with his wife enjoyed traveling but mostly enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandsons. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Memorial calling hours for Anthony will be held Friday April 20th from 5PM to 8PM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. A Memorial funeral Mass will be held Saturday morning in the Church of St. Anne 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury at 10:00AM (Relatives and friends are asked to go directly to Church. There will be no procession from the funeral home) Interment will be held privately in Mountain View Cemetery.
