Jessie Mae Gifford (Schnare) went to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 7th, 2012, in the comfort of her home. She was the beloved wife of Edward L. Gifford for 57years. He was her guardian, champion and tireless caregiver. She was a loving mother of three daughters: Donna M. Anderson, wife of Robert W. Anderson of Sterling; Lori A. Rossetti, wife of Robert E. Rossetti of Holden; Cathy L. Battelle, wife of William W. Battelle of Leicester. She leaves a legacy of eight grandchildren - Matthew, Lisa, Michael, Christie, Anthony, Jennifer, Nicole and Abby and nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and a nephew. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Garvie H. and Minnie M. Schnare and lived here her entire life. She attended Commerce High School and married soon after. Jessie worked for many years at Howard Johnson Restaurant on Lincoln St. However, her main occupation was being at home for her family and being a loving mother. She could always be counted upon for life's lessons and always called things as she saw them. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and movies as well reading and listening to music, but her greatest joy was caring for her family. Our hearts are filled with love, sadness, and peace. In our tears, we sat by your bedside, offering as much loving comfort as we could give. We will forever keep you in our hearts. The family would like to thank the caregivers of the Jewish Healthcare Center Hospice for their gentle care and support. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday morning, April 10, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Jessie through a memorial contribution, it is suggested that donations be made to Jewish Health Care Hospice, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
