Michael F. Bernardi, 50 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 2, 2012 at home. Michael is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Carol A. (Westerlind) Bernardi, who has been his best friend since they met at Hampton Beach in 1979. He also leaves his mother, Rita E. (Modzelewski) Bernardi; a brother, Anthony "Butch" Bernardi; a sister, Carol Peterson and her husband Kevin; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Westerlind all of Worcester; three brother-in-laws, Dennis Westerlind of Worcester, David Westerlind and Gene Westerlind and his wife Cheryl all of Millbury; a sister-in-law, Linda Westerlind of Worcester; his dog, Chloe, many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by a father-in-law, Robert Westerlind Sr. and a brother-in-law, Robert "Butch" Westerlind. Michael was born in Worcester, a son of the late Anthony J. Bernardi and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Holy Name Junior Senior High School. He later attended WITI. Michael worked for the City of Worcester's Water Department for fifteen years. He was an avid sports fan, especially loving the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Red Sox. Michael was a very outgoing person. He had an enthusiasm for life and a gift for conversation that spread throughout Grafton Hill. His smile could light up a room and his laughter will be remembered by many. He especially enjoyed spending time in his backyard with his neighbors and their dogs. Services for Michael will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove Street #1, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held on Monday, April 9th from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home.
