John M. Evans, 57, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Tuesday March 6th 2012 in St Vincent Hospital after a period of declining health. John was born in Springfield, Mass his father was the late James Evans and has lived in Worcester most of his life. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 19 years, Elizabeth V. "Liz" (Williams) Evans; his seven children, Dana Hazard, Kimberly Hinds, Adam and Justin Williams, Hope and Ian Hazard, and Jamesha Evans all of Worcester; his mother, Ruth (Williamson) Evans; seven brothers and sisters, James Evans, Jr., Claude, Robert, Romona, Dawn and Tara Evans and Florence Riley; 12 grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of close friends. Beside his father, John was pre deceased by two brothers, Philip and Mark Evans. John was a man who cherished the ability to help others; His entire working life was directed in that pursuit. For the last 17 years, John worked as House manager for the Spectrum House counseling people. He previously owned and operated Halfway houses doing the same mission. John had many talents, He loved music and was gifted with the ability to sing, play and write music which he did in various gospel groups, playing the guitar, keyboards and drums. He loved to draw, paint and cook. John had the gift of conversation and found fulfillment in counseling to whomever listened or needed his help. His other interests included his family, antique cars, tinkering on houses and cars. John's funeral service will be held Monday, March 19th at 12 noon in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 11 to 12 noon prior to the service.
