Elizabeth O. Dean, 83, of Worcester died on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the highly recommended Ichabod Washburn Hospice Residence after a very short illness. Born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota, Liz was a true Minnesotan who always rejoiced when a snowstorm or better yet a blizzard was forecast. Liz took time off of Mt. Holyoke College to study at the Sorbonne in Paris but eventually returned to complete her degree at the University of Minnesota. In her early twenties she moved to Greenwich Village and worked in international relations. It was in NYC that she was introduced to the man she would marry a few years later, David L. Dean She was predeceased by her parents Col. Alfred & Agnes (McCarty) Ott. She was also predeceased by a sister Jane Olin, Liz's daughter Elizabeth "Betsy" Dean and more recently her husband, David L. Dean. How she found the time or energy is beyond us but she was very active in organizations and causes that include Preservation Worcester, The International Center of Worcester, Save Green Hill Park Coalition, Garden Club, Worcester Horticultural Center, Friends of the Worcester Library and the Tower Hill Botanical Garden in Boylston. She leaves behind her son, Alan S. Dean; a sister, Susan Rasmussen of Mercer Island, WA; brothers -in-law, Gordon Rasmussen and David Olin; eleven nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews. In celebration of Liz's life and accomplishments, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in All Saints Church located at the corner of Pleasant and Irving Streets in Worcester. Inurnment will be in the Church's Columbarium at a later time with the family.
