Carmine C. D'Errico, 89, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Thursday March 1, 2012, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Carmine's wife Julie (Saksa) D'Errico passed away in 2003. He is survived by his devoted children; Joanne D. Lacey and her husband Richard of Stockbridge, David F. D'Errico of Charlton, and Perry A. D'Errico with whom he lived; two sisters, Josephine Notarangelo and Eleanor Dell'Olio both of Shrewsbury; four grandchildren, William and Patrick Lacey, Antonia and Jacob D'Errico; a great granddaughter Adalyn; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A sister, Anne Saucier passed away in December, three brothers, Julio, Louis, and Thomas D'Errico and another sister, Angela Evangelista also pre deceased him. He was born in Worcester, his parents were the late Peter and Lucia (D'Errico) D'Errico. He graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Junior College, joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during World War II and has lived here all his life. Carmine co-owned and operated with his family, D'Errico's Market on East Central Street many years before retiring. He began in the family store as a young man, after school leaving to serve in the Navy and returned to the store until retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, the former St Margaret Mary Parish, and the Italian American Post 3 VFW. A former member of the ITAM Club and Worcester Lodge 168, Order Sons of Italy in America. Carmine was an outstanding athlete, playing baseball and football in high school as well as Semi Pro football in Worcester after graduation. He was also an avid golfer, and member of Indian Meadows and Green Hill Golf Clubs. The family would like to thank the Overlook Visiting Nurse Association for their care and compassion in his final days. Carmine's funeral will be held Monday, from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be private. A period of calling hours will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the funeral on Monday.
