Yolanda R. (Perro) Damato, 85, of Worcester passed away peacefully Sunday February 26th 2012, in the home she built in 1953, with her devoted family gathered beside her. Yolanda affectionately known by family and friends as "YoYo" was born in Worcester on Christmas Eve, December 24th 1926, on Norfolk Street, the youngest daughter of nine children born to Italian Immigrants Antonio and Margaret (Alamano) Perro. She grew up, graduated from Commerce High and later Broms Beauty academy. In 1953; she and her husband Charles built a home in the growing Hamilton St, area of Trahan Ave to raise her three sons. Yolanda is survived by the family she loved so much. Her husband of 64 years, Charles "Charlie" Damato; her three sons, Charles "Chuck" Damato of Worcester, Dennis Damato and his wife Annmarie Sangiovanni-Damato of Medway, and Glen Damato of Shrewsbury ; Four grandchildren she cherished, Anthony, Chuckie, Jenna and Marielle. Two brothers, Anthony "Juni" Perro and Kenneth Perro, Sr.; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Four brothers, Michael, Richard, Angelo and Joseph Perro and two sisters, Mary Gerardi and Rose Glidden all pre deceased her. Yolanda was a hard worker all her life. In her youth she would work three jobs to help provide for her family eventually becoming a slipper stitcher at Comfort products with her sister Mary. Her ambition to help provide for her family came from her personality and her brothers owning their own business. She decided to then open her own a hair salon called "YoYo's Curley Cue" in a store front building she and her husband purchased. She also decided to own and operate with her husband Damato's Eatery and Coal Miners Pub both on Millbury Street until the 1990's. She retired from Hair dressing in 2002. Her family enjoyed Yolanda's love for cooking in everything she made. They will all miss seeing her in her kitchen and the traditional family and holiday dinners. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Wednesday February 29th from 4 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Thursday March 1st from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:00 am in St John Church, 44 Temple St. Burial will follow in the family lot in St John Cemetery.
