William A. Kennedy, Jr., 81, of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, in Memorial Hospital. William is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Janet E. (Morgan) Kennedy; a son, Timothy B. Kennedy of Worcester; two daughters, Kathleen A. Cronin and her husband John H. Cronin, Jr. of Auburn and Jane Ellen Pyche and her husband Brian of Auburn; a brother, John F. Kennedy and his wife Cathy of Oakham; four grandchildren, Meghan K. Cronin, Mark D. Cronin, Anna-Mei Pyche and James M. Kennedy; three step-grandsons, Andrew J. Heald, Robert N. Heald and Brian L. Heald. William was predeceased by his daughter in law, Lisa A. Kennedy; and also by a brother and a sister, Kevin P. Kennedy and Margaret A. Cadrin. He was born in Worcester, son of the late William A. and Ethel (Handlin) Kennedy, and has lived here most of his life. He graduated from Saint Stephen's High School and then served his nation proudly in the United States Navy. William worked as a mechanic for over thirty-nine years at the WRTA, before he retired. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, The Vernon Hill Post 435 American Legion. He was an ardent Patriots Fan and was a long time Season Ticket Holder. He enjoyed gardening and family vacations to the beaches in Rhode Island. He was a kind and caring husband, father and grandfather; he found great joy in his family and close friends. He will be missed by all those privileged to have met him. Calling hours for William will be held on Monday, February 20, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADATNE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, members of the Vernon Hill Post will conduct their ritual at 5:30. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 21, from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1250 Grafton Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
