Thomas J. Slyman, 73, of Shrewsbury, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in UMass Hospital. Tom is survived by his loving sister, Rosemary Nolle and her husband David who lived next door to Tom; a nephew, Peter Nolle and his wife Nikole, a niece, Jennifer Hill and her husband Michael both of Worcester; four great nephews; many cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Eva Baril. Thomas was born in Kansas City, Missouri, son of the late Peter R. and Emma C. (Russell) Slyman. He grew up in Shrewsbury, graduated from Shrewsbury High School and attended Notre Dame University. Thomas worked in retail sales for many years, before he retired. He had also worked as a bartender at the former Driftwood Restaurant in Shrewsbury and worked with his father at the family service station. He was a member of Saint Anne's church, the Alumni Association of Notre Dame University and the Shrewsbury Knights of Columbus. Tom enjoyed music and had hosted a radio show on the Clark University Radio Station, and had one time managed a local band. He loved all kinds of sports and was an avid golfer. Tom's favorite teams were the Boston Celtics, the Saint Louis Cardinals, the Green Bay Packers and of course any team at Notre Dame University. Tom's family would like to thank the nurses and aides from 3 west at UMass Hospital, for their continued care and support of Tom and his family. Calling hours for Tom will be held on Friday, February 10, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral will be held on Saturday, February 11, from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Road (route 9), Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Anne's Church, Human Services, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
