Worcester Fire Department Lieutenant, Maurice "Moe" Zingarelli, Jr. 59, of Shrewsbury passed away Thursday February 2nd 2012 in Boston with his family by his side after being stricken ill earlier in the week in Worcester. Maurice was born in Worcester, November 19, 1952, son of Maurice Zingarelli, Sr and Elizabeth M. (DiStefano) Zingarelli. He grew up on Eastern Ave, graduated from North High, earned his degree in History from Worcester State College and lived in Worcester before moving his family to Shrewsbury. Moe is survived by the love of his life and wife of the past 28 years Karen (Mahoney) Zingarelli; his three cherished daughters Kathryn and Jillian Zingarelli of Shrewsbury, and Lauren Zingarelli of Washington DC.; a brother, Anthony Zingarelli and his wife Laura of Webster; a neice Gina and nephew Anthony Zingarelli, Jr.; many other extended family members and a host of friends. Moe was appointed to the Worcester Fire Department on January 22nd 1984. and for the past 28 years worked as a fire fighter many of the past years stationed at Engine 8 on Burncoat St. attaining his present rank of Lieutenant. He also was a licensed EMT and worked part-time as a paralegal and bartender. Moe was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. The International Brotherhood of Fire Fighters Union Local 1009, the Worcester Fire Relief and Credit Unions. A dedicated family man, Moe cherished his wife, daughters and brother. He found immense enjoyment in family vacations, Ogunquit Beach in Maine and every minute he could be in the company of his family and friends. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday, February 6th 2012 from 4 pm to 8 pm in THE MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His celebration of life funeral will be held Tuesday February 7th at 9:00 am from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel-St Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
