John P. "Jay" Chioda, Jr., 63, formerly of Melvin Ave. passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 after a period of declining health. Jay is survived by his sister and principal caregiver, Nancy M. Tibbetts and her husband Richard of Worcester; two brothers, Jeffrey J Chioda and his wife Carla of North Brookfield and Joel J. Chioda of Shrewsbury; a son John Chioda of Worcester; a daughter Leah Chioda and a grandson Logan of Auburn; his former wife Diane (Richards) Chioda: nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. He was born in Worcester a son of John P Chioda, Sr and Nancy A. (Bacchiochi) Chioda. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School, joined the U.S. Air Force to serve his country during the Vietnam War. Upon returning John lived in Shrewsbury and Worcester for most of his life. Jay worked as a Motion Picture Projectionist and Stagehand for IATSE union local 96, at various venues around New England. He also worked for Showtime Services of Shrewsbury n Cambridge Biotech. Jay enjoyed reading, sports and was an avid fan of all New England Sports teams. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Thursday, February 2nd from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A funeral service will be celebrated at 7 pm in the funeral home. Burial with his parents will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Ave, Chelsea 02150 or the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472. The Chioda family would like to thank the Veterans Administration Chelsea Soldiers Home, for the care, compassion and understanding they gave to Jay during a difficult time.
