Maria Colon, 78, formerly of 42 Plantation Rd, Oxford, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 29th 2012 in St Mary's Healthcare with her family by her side after a period of declining health. Maria's husband, Andres Torres passed away in 1975. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Felicia Cardone and her husband Paul with whom she lived, Miguel Torres in Bronx, NY and Nellie Torres of Worcester; a brother, Marcelino Colon and a sister Carmen Colon both in Puerto Rico. Fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother, Jorge Colon and two sisters, Juana Colon and Emrita Colon all pre deceased her. She was born in Juncos Puerto Rico, a daughter of Silvano and Felicita (Rivera) Colon and has lived in the Worcester and Oxford area for many years. She was a Spanish Pentecostal Church member in Puerto Rico. Maria enjoyed gardening, animals, singing and playing the guitar. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family today, Tuesday January 31st from 11 am to 2 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral service will be celebrated at 1 pm in the funeral home.
