Maura P. (Hastings) La Comfora, 88 of Worcester a longtime registered nurse passed away peacefully Saturday January 21st 2012, with family by her side, after a period of declining health. Maura was born October 18th 1923, in County Mayo, Ireland a daughter of Michael and Mary (Malone) Hastings. She grew up in Ireland, earned her degree in nursing from Mater Hospital School of Nursing. Maura then worked many years for hospitals in Dublin. In 1963, Maura came to the United States and continued her Nursing career for St Vincent's Hospital and Nursing Homes in our area before retiring. She is survived by her two children, Paul La Comfora and his wife Terry of Worcester; Aine Mace and her husband Stephen in Maine; three cherished granddaughters, Jennifer, Maire and Jessica; three brothers, Sean Hastings of Worcester, Tadgh and the Rev. Miceal Hastings both in Ireland; four sisters, Peigi McNally and Sally Berry both in Ireland, Maeve Becker and Bridjo of Worcester; many neices, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother, Liam Hastings and a sister, Aine Hayde pre deceased her. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church. Maura was devoted to her Irish heritage with a strong belief in her church, cherishment in her family and grandchildren, enjoyment in walking and reading and travelling to Ireland. Maura's funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 28th at 10:00 am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street. There are no calling hours. Burial will be held Tuesday, January 31st in her hometown of Westport, County Mayo Ireland. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street 01606.
