Mary R. (Lyons) Bryant, 79, of Worcester passed away peacefully Wednesday January 18th 2012 at home with family at her side after a brief battle with cancer. Mary's husband of 56 years retired Worcester Police Detective R.V. "Don" Bryant passed away March 30th of 2010. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son in law Donna and Clifford Morse of Worcester; three grandchildren, Cathryn L. Morse and her fiancé Michael V. Ledoux, twin boys Michael C. and Brian R. Morse; a special nephew and niece, Thomas Ohman and Catherine Peters, a special friend and caretaker Deborah D'Eramo; extended family and friends. A sister, Catherine Handley passed away almost two years to the day on January 7th 2010. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of Thomas F. and Mary R. (Mattrick) Lyons. She graduated from Commerce High and has lived in Worcester all her life. During Mary's life she enjoyed her days as a housewife and mother, caring for her home, her family and performing her volunteer work for the Epworth Methodist Church free medical clinic. At one time she worked for the former, Crompton-Knowles and Heald Machine Companies. Mary was a simple woman who enjoyed the pleasure of her family, her garden, her home and her friends. She found enjoyment in sharing their laughter and company. She will be sorely missed. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday January 20th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, January 21st at 10:30 am in the funeral home. Burial next to her husband will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mary's name may be made to Umass-Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln St. 01605. The Bryant family would like to thank Dr David Shepro, the nurses and staff of the Umass Memorial Hospice for the care, compassion and understanding they gave to Mary during a difficult time.
