Maria L. Shumak

Mary L. "Maria" (Ventresca) Shumak, 88, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Sunday January 15, 2012 in the UMASS/ Memorial Hospital with her family around her. Her husband John J. Shumak died in 1981. Maria is survived by her two devoted daughters, Gina Shumak of Shrewsbury with whom she lived, and Joanne Scirpoli and her husband Frank of Shrewsbury, and several close cousins. She was predeceased by a brother Naldo Ventresca. Maria was born in Provencia , Torre Di Nolfi, Abbruzzo, Sulmona, Italy daughter of the late Felice and Anna (Ventresca) Ventresca and came to the United States in 1940 and became a U.S. Citizen in 1946.Maria worked for the G.E. Telechron Company for many years before she retired. She was a life communicant of Our Lady of Mt Carmel-St Ann Church. Maria enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City with her friends and loved to shop, She was a strong and independent woman , and enjoyed being with her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Maria's funeral will be held Thursday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St.with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Wednesday. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Flowers may be sent or contributions made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church Capitol Campaign and Renovation Fund. 24 Mulberry St. Worcester, MA. 01604.
