Leon F. "Frank" DesRosiers, Jr., 80, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012, in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family, after a sudden illness. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Maureen (Shea) DesRosiers; five sons, Mark F. DesRosiers and his wife Teresa Lorusso of Worcester, David M. DesRosiers and his wife Fabiana of Scarsdale, NY, John M. DesRosiers and his wife Courtney, Daniel V. DesRosiers and Michael A. DesRosiers and his wife Karen, all of Worcester; six beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew, Maggie, Jack, Isabella and Alec; three generations of nieces and nephews; and many friends. Frank was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine Chevalier. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Leon F. and Gerelda E. (St. Onge) DesRosiers and has lived here most of his life. He graduated in 1949 from Saint John's High School, on Temple Street in Worcester and then in 1956 from Saint Michael's College in Vermont. He served his nation proudly in the United States Army. Mr. DesRosiers worked for many years as an inspector for Registry of Motor Vehicles, and retired from the Massachusetts State Police. He was a member of Our Lady of The Rosary Church. He enjoyed being with people and telling all kinds of stories. He loved his family, especially the gift of his grandchildren. Along with the love of family and friends, he also loved his home, working in his yard, tending flowers, traveling with his wife and many good friends (especially Carol Shulman), caring for dogs, feeding birds and generally animals of all kinds. Calling hours for Frank will be held on Thursday, January 12 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 13, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of The Rosary Church, 25 Fales Street, Worcester, (Please go directly to church). Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Saint John's Food for The Poor Center, 44 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
