Pamela M. (Smith) Swenson, 58, of Worcester passed away on Saturday, December 24th 2011 in her home with her devoted family by her side after a lengthy and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Pamela was born in Worcester, the daughter of Robert and Williamina Smith. She graduated in the class of 1971 from North High School and earned her degree from Worcester State College. Pam met and married her husband and partner of 36 years, John Swenson, and they lived in Charlton for 23 years before returning to Worcester. Together they raised their three beloved daughters, Erica Baxter and her husband Adam of Paxton, Crystal Swenson of Woburn and Alexandra Swenson of Worcester. Pam is also survived by five siblings, David Smith and Patrice Anderson of Worcester, Dennis Smith in North Carolina, Gary Smith in Belmont, NH, and Cynthia Lopardo of Mystic, CT. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, a host of friends and her cherished dog, Buddy. Pam was a pre-school teacher for many years and then worked more than 10 years for Commerce Insurance Company in Webster before retiring due to illness. Pam enjoyed traveling, gardening, baking, and planning holiday parties. She devoted every day of her life to taking care of her family and was an incredible wife and mother. Funeral services for Pam will be held on Thursday, December 29th at 11:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 28th from 5pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UMASS Cancer Center of Excellence or to the Caring Bridge website at www.caringbridge.org. The Swenson family would like to thank their amazing friends and family for their ongoing love and support as well, the doctors and nurses at the UMASS Cancer Center and the entire staff of UMASS Memorial Hospice for the excellent care, compassion, and understanding they gave to Pam throughout her ordeal.
