Levi M. Wright, 75 of Worcester, formerly of Hobson City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2011 in Autumn Village Nursing Home after a long battle with cancer. Levi is survived by his wife, Grace L. Wright (Roberts) of Worcester, two sons, Matthew Wright and his wife Joanna of Worcester and Levi M. Wright, Jr. of Greensborough, NC; two brothers, Willie Todd of Pittsburgh, PA and Albert Roy of Dayton, OH; four grandchildren, Benjamin M. and Mia H. Wright, Levi M. Wright, III and Raven Wright; a close family friend, Florence Lackey of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son, Donald Wright, four brothers, Bennie H. Wright, Jr., Bobby E. Wright, John D. Wright and Eugene Wright; a sister, Nellie Pearl Wright; his step-mother, Zeller Swank Roy Wright. Levi was born in Hobson City, Alabama, a son of the late Bennie H. Wright, Sr. and Myrtle M. (Johnson) Wright. He resided in Alabama till 1953. Levi then moved to Columbus Ohio and then later to Worcester where he has resided ever since. He entered the United States Navy serving his country during the post -Korean War Years. During his tour of duty he received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Upon his return home, he attended Howard University. During his years in Massachusetts he completed his Certificate in Alcohol Studies from Rutgers University, and received his certification as a Licensed Certified Social Worker and Counselor from Boston City Hospital - Boston University. He also attended Quinsigamond Community College. Levi worked as a Licensed Certified Social Worker and Counselor for Bancroft Human Services, Inc. and for the State of Massachusetts. Prior to that he worked as a messenger for U.S. Deputy Attorney General's Office, a clerk for the U.S. Board of Parole, as well as a computer operator and budget and accounts for the Department of Justice. Levi loved watching sports, being with family especially his grandchildren, fishing and driving. A period of calling hours for Levi will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.
