Assad Abusamra

Assad Abusamra, 81 of Worcester passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 7th 2011 with his family at his side after a period of declining health. Assad's wife Maryrose (Arbini) Abusamra passed away in 1976. He is survived by his devoted children, Hanna Abusamra and his wife Mouna, Riad Abusamra, and Mohjeh Abusamra all of Worcester, Fadi Abusamra and his wife Edna of Webster, and Fadia Abusamra widow of the late Eli Tahan in Damascus Syria; a brother, Ghabi and a sister Claire Abusamra both in Damascus; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews including, Fayez and Omayma Chalhoub; extended family including, Nada Zeena and friends. Five siblings, Khalil, Antonette, George, Antoun and Selma Abusamra all pre deceased him. Assad was born in Damascus, a son of Hanna and Mohjeh (Saidnawi) Abusamra. He grew up in and lived in Syria. In 1980, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Worcester. Assad earned a living as a self employed Antique Restorer in Syria specializing in Wood and paint restoration. He was a member of St George Orthodox Cathedral. Assad enjoyed travel, cooking and was particularly intrigued by the challenge of repair and restoration of articles. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Sunday, December 11th from 4 pm to 7 pm and again on Monday, December 12th from 10:00 am to 10:45 am in St George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. A funeral service will be celebrated Monday, December 12th at 11:00 am in St George Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Endowment Fund of St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. 01604. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family.
