Carolyn M. (Turnbull) Sturgis, 70, of Auburn, passed away Saturday, November 19th 2011 in her home with her cherished family gathered beside her. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of the late Joseph and Marion (LaVallee) Turnbull. She graduated from St. Stephen's High School and has lived in Auburn since 1971. Carolyn worked more than 38 years as an office assistant for Jen Manufacturing in Millbury. She previously worked for David Clark Company. Carolyn's husband of 46 years Paul Sturgis passed away suddenly in August of 2010. She is survived by her four children, Susan M. McCall and her husband Dewrod of Raleigh, NC, Peter J. Sturgis and his wife Bonnie of Paxton, Lori A. Backlin and her husband Timothy of Auburn, Christine MacGrory and her husband Christopher of Oxford; a brother, Robert Turnbull of Springfield; two sisters, Maureen Karalus and Donna Hackett both of Worcester; eight cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Marcus, Lexi, Matthew, Steele, Erica, Kayla and Bo; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends. A brother, Roger Turnbull and a sister Kathleen Sluckis pre deceased her. Carolyn enjoyed cooking for her family, tending to her garden and her trips to the casino. She was a woman who was dedicated to her family, their care and achievements in life. She cherished the times she could spend with her grandchildren. Carolyn was a Mentor and friend to whomever needed her. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday November 21st 2011 from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. At Carolyn's request, her Celebration of Life service and burial next to her husband Paul in Hope Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Paul Sturgis Scholarship Fund, care of Bay state Savings Bank, 123 Auburn St. Auburn 01501.
