Joseph Edgar "Ed" Dalbec, 86, of Auburn formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 12, 2011, with his devoted family and friends by his side after a long battle with heart disease. Ed was born in Rumford, Maine a son of Adolphe and Georgiana (Chenard) Dalbec. He grew up and educated in Maine, joined the Merchant Marine to serve his country during World War II he moved to Worcester in 1942, and lived in the Canterbury St section of Worcester before moving to auburn 20 years ago. Ed is survived by his wife and true love for more than 67 years, Gayle F. (Fields) Dalbec. His six devoted children, Dennis E Dalbec and his wife Donna of Holden, Diane M. Leufstedt and her husband Richard of Worcester, Ronald Dalbec and his wife Nancy, Susan Rennie and her husband Jim all of Marlborough, Janine M. Beckwith and her husband Barry of Coventry Ct., Ann-Marie Svedberg and her husband Daryll of Auburn: a sister, Bella Duquette of Worcester; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Three brothers, Rosaire, Conrad, and Roland Dalbec and a sister Yvonne Benoit all pre deceased him. Ed worked as a finish carpentry over 45 years; He worked out of the Carpenters Union Local 107 for various contractors, and more than 10 years for Lilly Construction in Boston. Ed in his spare time could be found in his work shop restoring antique furniture. His special fondness was in restoring Oak furniture. He was a member of N.American Martyrs church, the Local 107, Carpenters Union, the Franco American Club where he served as Past President, and the Main South Post 5, American Legion in Worcester. He was a past member of the Pope John Council Knights of Columbus. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, November 15th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be celebrated Wednesday, November 16th from the funeral home with a mass at 10:00 am in North American Martyrs Church; 8 Wyoma Dr. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, 33 Speen St Framingham 01701. The Dalbec family would like to thank Dr Alan Filiberti and Dr Dennis Murphy, as well as their staffs for the care, compassion and understanding given to our father during a difficult time.
