Florence Heppenstall Benson, 89, of Worcester passed away peacefully Friday, November 12, 2011, in her sleep, at home surrounded by family. She is survived by her twin sons, Richard and Ronald Heppenstall; numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Florence's husband, Paul R. Benson passed away in 1982. Florence's twin brother James, was killed in World War II, earning the purple heart and several campaign medals. Florence's two sisters, Margaret and Christine also pre deceased her She worked for the Velumoid Corporation for more than 35 years and was the secretary for the United Steel Workers Union before retiring. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church where she taught CCD for many years. Florence loved music, traveling and flowers and often took excursions to see Broadway musicals She also often attended The Worcester Music Festival and was longstanding member of the Audubon Society, Flo was a kind and generous person who adored her Grandchildren, and it was in their company that she was happiest. Florence will be fondly remembered and truly missed by her, family and friends. She was born in Rutland, and lived most of her life in the Greendale Section of Worcester and survived the 1953 Worcester Tornado. Florence graduated from Commerce High School and attended Emerson College in Boston. Florence's funeral will be celebrated Thursday, November 17, 2011 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 10:30 am in Our Lady of the Rosary church, 35 Fales St. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, November 16th from 5 pm to 8 pm.
