Matthew Francis Denio

Matthew F. Denio, 78, of Worcester, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Matthew is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne M. (Duprey) Denio, his six children, Wayne Denio and his wife Kathleen of Worcester, Patricia Denio and companion Virginia of Ocala, Florida, Darlene Dolan and her husband Robert of Marlboro, Susan Wallace and her husband Michael of Worcester, Kevin Denio and his wife Cathy of Webster and Kerry Fitzpatrick and her husband William of Worcester; fourteen grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Fortier and Barbara Macrejewski of Charlton and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Joseph and Robert Denio. Matthew was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late, Clarence & Helen (Earley) Denio. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. He was employed for 46 years by Wright Line as a Welder, retiring in July of 1998. He was lifetime member of the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243. Mr. Denio received the award of Elk of the Year numerous times. He continuously volunteered his time as lodge cook for the many lodge functions and charitable events. Matthew's greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included bowling, golf, cooking and was an avid Red Sox Fan. Family and friends may gather for calling hours in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester on Tuesday, November 15th, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home before departing for church. Matthew's Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16th in St. Andrew the Apostle Mission Church, 5 Spaulding St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
