Raffaela "Fally" R. Cariglia, 88, of Worcester, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2011, at Rose Monahan Hospice Residence. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Rosaria (Lopriore) Cariglia. She was educated in the Worcester Public Schools, graduating from North High School. She then attended a women's clothing design school, specializing in dress making. Raffaela then worked for a two women's clothing stores located in downtown Worcester. She was a salesperson and buyer for the former Barnard's and Sheres Department Stores. During this period, Raffaela very much enjoyed her work in this field and was respected by her peers. Always presenting herself with class and dignity, Raffaela retired early to care for her parents. She was a very humble person, always putting others before herself. She was a smart and well-read individual, never belittling anyone. Everybody she met was treated fairly. One of the few left from the greatest generation, who believed in hard work and determination, she, along with her contemporaries, defined the character of this country. Raffaela really enjoyed her family, especially the cousins she grew up with, and friends. She grew up in the Shrewsbury Street neighborhood, around Gage Street and McCrae Court. She was very proud of her Italian heritage, and would speak at length about her upbringing. She is survived by two nephews, Thomas Marsello and Bernard Marsello, both of Worcester; as well as other nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother and two sisters, John Cariglia, Michelena Marsello and Gloria Cariglia. She will be missed very much by her family and friends, especially her two nephews, whom she loved very much. She was an inspiration to Thomas and Bernard, and to many others as well. Calling hours will be held on Friday morning, November 11, from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester.
