Charlotte M. (Arakelian) Ghiz, 84, of Worcester passed away Wednesday, October 12th 2011 in the University of Massachusetts Hospital after being stricken ill at home. Charlotte was born August 8th 1927 in Worcester, a daughter of Krikor and Anna (Berberian) Arakelian. She graduated from David Hale Fanning Trade school as a stylist and has lived here all her life. Charlotte is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert J. Ghiz; her cherished six children, Cynthia Sherman of Worcester, Marilyn Ghiz of Del Ray Beach, Florida, Leslie Ghiz, Roberta Germain and Laurie Ghiz all of Worcester and Robert Ghiz of Waltham; a brother George Arakelian of Worcester and a sister, Alice Lacey in Texas; seven grandchildren who adored her, Trina, Keri, Adam, Stephen, Nicolas, Emily and Olivia; three great grandchildren, Lydia, Natalie, Samantha; her beloved dog, Chloe; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Three brothers, Archie, Arthur, Gregory and a sister, Mary Gazoorian predeceased her. Charlotte was a licensed hairdresser working many years for Leo's Hair Salon in Shrewsbury before retiring. Charlotte also volunteered her time for the University of Massachusetts Hospital and knitting blankets for the Linus Project. Charlotte was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Charlotte had many hobbies she enjoyed including, knitting, sewing, decoupage, and playing cards with her cousins and friends. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, October 16th 2011 from 3 pm to 6 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. Charlotte's funeral service will be held Monday, October 17th at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton St. Burial will be at a later time.
