Maria Rosaria (Leone) Snell, 65, of Worcester passed away Tuesday, October 11th 2011, with her cherished family at her side after a 6 ½ year journey with ovarian cancer. Maria was born in Lacedonia, province of Avellino Italy, a daughter of Filippo and Teresa (D'Agostino) Leone. As young women she immigrated to Worcester and graduated from Commerce High. She has lived here ever since. Maria is survived by her beloved and devoted family; Her daughter Dawn M. Fleming and her husband Mark of Worcester, John J. Leone and his longtime friend Nicole Oliveira of Framingham; a brother, John D'Agostino and his wife Nancy of Dudley; a sister, Anna Leone of Worcester; Four grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Markkie, Jaelin, Keenan and Dominic; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A sister, Fina (Leone) Romano pre deceased her. Maria worked for the University of Massachusetts Medical School as an administrative assistant in the internal medicine residency program since 1990 retiring in September 2008. She previously worked for the Worcester Housing Authority as assistant to the executive director. Maria was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, and the Tuesday night mixed bowling league at Town & Country lanes in Shrewsbury for over 20 years. She loved dancing, gardening, vacationing and working around her home. Maria's constant joy and greatest pleasure was her family. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Thursday October 13th from 5 pm to 8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Friday from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, 228 Saugatuck Avenue, Westport, CT 06880. or the Umass Cancer Research Center, 222 Maple Ave, Shrewsbury, Ma 01545. Maria's family would like to thank the hospice team at Umass; Dr Susan Zweigzig, her nursing and office staff, along with Dr. David Goff for the care, compassion and understanding they gave to Maria during her journey.
