Hilda Rose Starkus Hilda was born on August 28, 1918 at home in Worcester, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Simon and Rose Savinsky; and graduated from Worcester Girls Trade School in Worcester, Massachusetts. Upon her marriage in 1938, she moved to Boylston and was a resident in the same house until she recently resided in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center. She was a member of St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church in Boylston for many years. Her genuine enjoyment was sewing, of which together with her mother, she fulfilled her dream of making her 3 daughter's wedding gowns. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting as well as their summer home in Misquamicutt, RI. She is survived by her husband Joseph of 73 years; two sons, Edward J. Starkus and his wife Maryanne of Holden, Massachusetts and James R. Starkus and his wife Dianne of Murrieta, California; three daughters, Geraldine A. Zecco and her husband Francis A. Zecco, Sr. of Holden, Massachusetts; Joyce M. L'Heureux of Valencia, California; Charlotte L. DelFem of Worcester, Massachusetts; two sisters Irene Baker of Sylvania, Ohio and Lavina Burns of Auburn, Massachusetts; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Kevin J. Zecco and by 2 brothers Simon and Vitty. Everyone who she met enjoyed her. She will be missed her family, friends and neighbors. The family would like to thank the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care, especially those in the South Wing, for their loving care and compassion. Calling hours for Hilda will be held today, Thursday, October 6, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Her Funeral will be held Friday, October 7, from the funeral home, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary of The Hills Church, 620 Cross Street, Boylston. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Tower Hill Botanic Gardens, 11 French Drive, Boylston, MA 01505.
