Ida A. (Smarelli) Trifone, a longtime resident of Southbridge, died peacefully Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester after a period of failing health. Her husband of fifty-two years, Anthony R. Trifone, predeceased her in November of 1997. She leaves her five sons, Raymond A. Trifone of Worcester; David P. Trifone and his wife Cindy of Palm Coast, FL; Anthony R. Trifone, JR and his partner Jean Aldrich of Belchertown; Richard J. Trifone of Worcester; and John E. Trifone and his wife June of Southbridge; her three daughters, Mary A. Brodeur of Dudley; Lisa M. Kemp and her partner Jean-Paul Hache of Thompson, Ct; and Donna L. Trifone of Charlton; her brother, Frank Smarelli of Southbridge; her sister, Carmella Rojecki of South Windsor, CT; her seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her son, James M. Trifone, passed away in 1995 and her sister, Columbia Cygan passed away in 1994. Ida was born in Southbridge, MA, the daughter of the late Eustachio and Giovina (Santelli) Smarelli, and lived in Southbridge all of her life. Ida loved her family and friends. Family meant everything to Ida and most importantly all the special times spent together. Ida enjoyed a wide range of interest including bingo, making crafts, watching bowling and the Red Sox's games. Most of all she enjoyed cooking for her family. Ida's family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Knollwood Nursing Center and Summit Elder Care for the dedicated and compassionate care provided to Ida. She held a very special place in her heart for all of them. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Ida on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011, at Saint Mary's Church of Blessed John II Parish, 279 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, MA, at 10:00 am. For those who wish to extend their sympathies, the family will receive visitors at St. Mary's Church of Blessed John Paul II Parish, starting at 9:30 am the morning of the funeral. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge, MA.
