Sophie M. (Kamyck) DiStefano, 94, of Worcester passed away Thursday September 22, 2011 in the University of Massachusetts after being stricken ill at home. Sophie's husband of 67 years John DiStefano passed away in 2004. She is survived by her son, Daniel J. DiStefano and his wife Kathleen L. with whom she lived; her daughter, Ann Marie Troiano and her husband Frank Troiano Jr. all of Worcester; two sisters, Joan Cutroni of Shrewsbury and Henrietta Stankus of Worcester; seven grandchildren, Tricia Perry, Christina and John Troiano, Joanna Talbot, Lisa LaForest, Colleen and Danielle DiStefano; five great grandchildren many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Six brothers, Stanley, Henry, Edward, Fredrick, Richard and Chester Kamyck and three sisters, Helen Halloway, Irene Beuregard, Emily Kazamck all pre deceased her. She was born in Thorndike, Mass a daughter of Joseph and Ann (Januska) Kamyck and has lived here most of her life. Sophie worked more than 50 years of her life for the Worcester Knitting Company before retiring in 1988. She was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Sophie enjoyed playing cards, knitting and crochet. She found her proudest and most enjoyable times of her life were when she shared the special moments with her family. They were her inspiration. Sophie's funeral will be held Saturday, September 24th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Loreto Church Memorial fund, 34 Massasoit Rd 01604.
