Joseph G. Ditaranto, of Auburn died peacefully Thursday September 22, 2011 at home with his family. Joseph is survived by his wife Congetta M. (Corio) Ditaranto, three daughters Marilyn Kobel , Joan A. McGourty and her husband David, Debra L. Dumas and her husband Raymond all of Auburn. Three sisters Julia Kullman, Anne Palumbo, and Mary Scricco, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers Angelo and Michael Ditaranto, and two sisters Helen "Lana" Trance and Ida Renzoni. Joseph was born in Worcester son of the late Frank and Madeline (LaComfra) Ditaranto and lived in Millbury and Worcester before moving to Auburn. Joseph served his country proudly during WW11 in the United States Marines in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star for saving the lives of three fellow Marines in Peleliu. Joseph worked for the Wyman Gordon Company for many years, and retired from the Worcester County Engineers Department as a surveyor. Josephs funeral will be held Saturday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME &CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00AM in the North American Martyrs Church 8 Wyoma Dr. Auburn.
