Joseph W. Hallahan, 81, of Petersham, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehab-The Meadows in Leicester. Joseph was born in Worcester on June 8, 1930, son of Lawrence and Elizabeth (King) Hallahan. He is survived by two sisters, Mary King in Florida and Patricia C. Benoit of Worcester; many nieces and nephews including, Donna Benoit-Simarano, Joseph Benoit, Christine Benoit-Albin, James Benoit, John Benoit, Michael Benoit and Daniel Benoit, who he treated as if they were his own children. Joseph was predeceased by a niece, Denise Benoit and two nephews, Mark Benoit and Timothy Benoit, who he also treated as his own children; he was also predeceased by three brothers, Francis John and Lawrence Hallahan. Joseph proudly served his nation in the Unites States Army, during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the City of Worcester as a truck driver in the Department of Public Works, for many years before he retired. He was a member of Saint Peter's Church in Petersham, and was deeply religious and spiritual person. He was a wine and coin collector; he enjoyed growing fruit trees on his property and enjoyed the entertainment of western movies and opera. Joseph was a calm and kind man with a gentle soul. He was always happiest when he was surrounded by his loving family. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday Morning, September 20, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint John's Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery.
