Marlene (Henchey) Mignone, 74, of Worcester passed away Monday, August 22nd with family by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marlene was born in Milford, February 17th 1937, the daughter of William L. and Genevieve (DeVanuto) Henchey. She grew up and lived in Milford, until she met and married her husband John J. Mignone, Jr. Together they moved to Worcester and raised their family for 35 years until John passed away in 1992. Marlene continued to live in Worcester until the time of her death. Marlene is survived by her three children, Cheryl A. Abbascia and her husband Carl of Shrewsbury, William J. Mignone and his spouse David Lemenager and John M. Mignone all of Worcester. Three grandsons, Christopher, Corey and Colby Abbascia; many nieces, nephews, cousins, especially Jewell Holden of South Yarmouth, extended family and friends. A stepson, Frederick Mignone passed away in 2006. Marlene worked for the University of Massachusetts Medical School for over 20 years before retiring, due to illness. Previously she worked as Hostess for the Chez Ami Restaurant in Westborough. She was a member of St Anne's Church in Shrewsbury and its Golden Age Society. She was also a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Golden Years, and member, Past President and Shop Steward of the local 2616 ASFCME Union at Umass. Marlene loved to play bingo. She was also enthusiastic sports fan enjoying the Red Sox, Patriots and especially watching her three grandchildren play sports. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy; she cherished her life with them and found inspiration in watching them grow. Marlene's family would like to thank Dr. David Shepro and his entire staff, for their care and compassion during Marlene's treatment. The family would also like to thank the kind people at Shrewsbury Nursing Home, for their devoted and loving care of Marlene and her family. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Friday, August 26th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Saturday, August 27th from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:00 am in St Anne Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd.
