Ernest J. "Clyde" George, 91 of Millbury passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. Ernest's wife of sixty years, Eva I. (Army) George passed away on November 10, 2004. He is survived by two sons, Willard George of Winamac, Indiana and Daniel George and his wife Nancy of Leicester; a brother, Harold George and his wife Eleanor of Northbridge; eleven grandchildren including Wendy Gengarelli and her husband Mark of Millbury with whom he lived, Jennifer Howe of Auburn, Vicki Holbrook of Worcester, Michael Howe of Florida; twenty-six great grandchildren including, Devon Gengarelli, Justin Howe, Jonell and Bruce Holbrook; five great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son Donny George; a daughter, Susan Howe; three brothers, Verne, Claude and Earl George; two sisters, Florence Mongeon and Irene George- Zuranski; a granddaughter, Krissy George; a grandson, Robert Howe . Ernest was born in Millbury, a son of the late Claude R. and Amelia (Laprade) George. He lived in Millbury for sixty-three years. He graduated from Millbury High School. Ernest enlisted in the United States Army serving his country during World War II. Ernest worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for thirty-six years retiring in 1982. He also worked for New England Power as a custodian for thirty-three years. After his retirement he and his wife moved to Florida where they lived for twenty five years. Ernest was a member of The American Legion in Spencer, he loved reading his Nook, playing solitaire, watching his shows with "his girls," Wendy and Jenny and playing with his Kitty Baby. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. immediately following calling hours.
