Robert F. Cormier, 77, formerly of 58 Coburn Avenue, Worcester, MA, passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Ann "Nancy" F. (Dolan) Cormier; three sons, Michael and his wife Patricia of Auburn, Christopher and his wife Patricia of Worcester and Paul and his wife Jessica of Dudley; three sisters, Jane Kempskie of Worcester, Claire Varney of Monument Beach, MA and MaryLou Lapointe of Upton; thirteen grandchildren, Michelle Testagrossa of Worcester, Bethany Carlson of Charlton, Brandon Cormier of Nashville, TN, Ryan Cormier of Louisville, KY, Melony Fahey of Worcester, Dawn Cormier of Worcester, Jordan Cormier currently serving his country in the United States Marine Corps; Jamison Cormier of Auburn, Seth Cormier of Auburn, Donovan Cormier of Auburn, Mariah Cormier of Auburn, Carly Cormier of Dudley, and Rhiannon Cormier of Auburn; five great grandchildren, Hailey, Macey, Christopher, Laedin and Brogan; several nieces and nephews. His sister Jean Fowler and brother Richard Cormier, predeceased him. Bob was born in Grafton, MA the son of Eugene R. and Ruth M. (Killelea) Cormier. He graduated from Worcester Vocational Technical High School in 1952. Bob served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957, during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Mechanic for the Worcester Fire Department for 23 years, retiring in 2000, as Chief Mechanic. Robert was a member of St. Anne's Church. He was a member of the former Saint Margaret Mary Church, The Knights of Columbus Adelphi Council and the American Legion Eastside Post 201. He was active in the Jack Barry Little League and had served as League Treasurer and as President of Eastside Babe Ruth. He was an avid and passionate New England sports fan. More importantly, he was a hard working and dedicated family man. The Funeral for Bob will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike (Route 9 East), Shrewsbury, with burial to follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
