Samuel Caffone, 90, of Worcester died peacefully Monday July 25, 2011 in the St. Francis Home.His wife Ellen A. (Axtin) Caffone died in 2003. Samuel is survived by two sisters Helen Caffone, and Rita Stevenson both of Worcester, and many nephews and nieces, and great nephews and great nieces. He was predeceased by three brothers, Domenic, Frank, and Natale Caffone, and a sister Nancy DePaoli. Sam was born in Worcester son of the late Giuseppe and Maria (Adimari) Caffone and lived here all his life. Sam served in the United States Army during WW11. He served four years with Company C and the 389th Infantry Regiment where he was a driver that supplied the Ammunition from the storage area to the front lines. He received a commendation for bravery. Samuel served his time in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and European Theatre. Samuel worked as a Trackmen for the Boston & Albany Railroad for many years before he retired. He was a member of the American Legion, and enjoyed his scratch tickets, and a good day at the Track.He will be missed by his family and friends. Samuel's funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30AM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. A period of calling hours will be held from 9:00AM to 10:30AM prior to the service. Entombment will be in St. Johns Cemetery Mausoleum.
