Marie L Hilow

April 15, 1927 — July 23, 2011

Marie L. (Massery) Hilow 84, of Worcester passed away peacefully Saturday, July 23rd 2001, in the Radius Health Center surrounded by her loving family. Marie is survived by her devoted husband and partner of 50 years, Mitchell J. Hilow; A son Richard S. Hilow, his wife Ginger and their three children, Garren, Morgan and Erin all of Strafford, N.H.; A daughter Teresa M. McLaughlin, her husband Brian and their son Sean of Windham, N.H.: A brother Donald Massery and his wife Sonya of Pittsfield; A sister Najlah Antous and her husband Raymond of Danbury, Conn; She also leaves sisters and brothers in law, Roberta Massery, and John Hajjar both of Pittsfield, Jeanie Rahaim of Gardner, George Hilow and his wife, Kathleen and also her friend "Marie" whose cards gave her such pleasure; Two brothers, Edward and Leo Massery, a sister Linda Hajjar , and a sister in law Anne Massery all pre deceased her. Marie also leaves several beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends who will greatly miss her. Marie was born in Pittsfield, daughter of Toufic and Nassab (Amoon) Massery. She graduated from Pittsfield High and worked as head of payroll and computer programming for General Electric Company for 15 years. While working for GE, Marie played basketball for the Pittsfield Professional Drug team. She met and married her husband and moving Worcester. Upon arrival In Worcester, Marie worked in the Office many years for the Fairlawn Rehabilitation Center, before retiring. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church and its Women's Club. She was an active member of the Worcester Emblem No. 51, and the Ladies Auxiliary of East Side Post No. 201. "SITTOO" as Marie was called by her grandchildren, devoted most of her time to family and especially to charities. She drove for the Blind, worked incessantly for St. Jude Research Hospital and for 15 years helped people become literate through the Literacy Volunteer Program. Marie also spent many hours in local schools working one on one with children in special Ed. Classes. She was a Den mother in the Scouting Program and was an avid bowler, golfer and especially loved to play cards with her grandchildren. "SITTOO" will be sadly missed by her family, friends and especially her grandchildren who learned to play poker and scat at 7:00 am sessions. Her warm and loving personality and presence gave strength and closeness to family that few could ever enjoy. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Marie's family from 4 pm to 8 pm Monday, July 25th in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Members of the Emblem Club #51 will meet at 7 pm in the funeral home to conduct their ritual. Her funeral will be held Tuesday from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 am in Our Lady of Mercy Church, June St Worcester. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church Building fund, June St Worcester or St Jude Children's research hospital, 1 St Jude Place, Memphis Tenn. The Hilow family would like to thank Dr. Wilner and his staff at "SUMMIT" and the 3rd floor unit, the Activities group (all her Angels and especially "Donna" and "Jackie") at Radius Health and Rehab. for the loving care and attention given to her.
