The servant of God, Gregory Chachi, 84 of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. Gregory is survived by his devoted wife of sixty years, Victoria (Lupu) Chachi; a son, Thomas Chachi and his wife Darlene of Oxford; two daughters, Diane Bourisk and her husband George of Grafton and Anne Marie Chachi of Worcester; a sister, Lillian Chachi of Worcester; two grandchildren, Michael and Sarah Bourisk whom he adored; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Androniki and Nickolas Demake. Gregory was born in Worcester, the son of the late Dimitri and Maria (Pano) Chachi and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Commerce High School and later attended both Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester State College. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 serving his country during WWII. After his tour of duty, he worked in the shipping, receiving and packaging department for Rexnord Shipping for 38 years before retiring in 1986. Gregory was a faithful and active member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and was also a former member of the Marine Corp. League. He loved sports especially football and was semi-pro football player. Gregory's funeral service will be held Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester and again on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in church prior to the service. A Trisagion service will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
