Alfred A. Simoncini, 86, of Worcester passed away peacefully, Tuesday July 12th 2011, with his daughters at his side. Alfred's is survived by his wife and partner of 64 years, Margaret L. (Turco) Simoncini; his daughter's the Honorable Judge Deborah A.S. Capuano and her husband John, Denise E. Pappas and her husband John, Doreen L. Quatela and her husband Anthony all of Worcester; five grandchildren, Dr. John J. Giordano DMD, Tara M. Quatela, Lee M. Pappas, Anthony Quatela III and Mark A. Pappas; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Alfred was born in Worcester, the youngest son of Angelo and Assunta (Marcucci) Simoncini. He graduated from Commerce High School, entered the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II, serving in Japan, France, England and the Philippines, as a member of the Company A, 67th Signal Battalion. Al worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 20 years as a Deputy Commissioner for the Division of Insurance before retiring. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, the Eastside Post 201 American Legion, and the former ITAM Club "Papa" as his daughters and grandchildren called him was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an inspiration and role model and truly the patriarch of the family. He had a passion for cooking and was most happy to have his family and all of their friends seated around his dinner table, especially on the holidays. He was most happy surrounded by his grandchildren, telling stories about World War II and his younger days. They were the light of his life. The family would like to thank everyone at Christopher Heights Assisted Living, the Jewish Home Hospice and especially the staff on the Hillside Unit of the Christopher House Nursing Home for the loving care that they gave to Papa. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Friday, July 15th from 8:30 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St. Boston, Ma 02115.
