John R. "Willie" Yanczewski, 68, of Worcester passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011 in St Vincent Hospital with his family by his side. John was born July 17, 1942, in Webster, a son of John and Mary F. (Mahoney) Yanczewski. He graduated from High School joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served with the 5th Infantry Division in Vietnam. He has lived in Worcester most of his life. John is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Primitiva "Tiva" (Guerra) Yanczewski; six devoted children, John R. Johnnie Y" Yanczewski of Worcester, Tina Yanczewski of Millbury, Robert Yanczewski and his wife Susan of Ft. Myers, James and Michael Yanczewski both of Worcester, Nancy Amorello and her husband Joseph of Shrewsbury; a brother, Robert Yanczewski in Hollywood Florida; six grandchildren he adored, Elexis, Matthew, Brandon, Isabella, Joshua, and Abigail; a sister in law Elida Goodrow of Worcester; his pets, Ethel the cat, Micah, Diesel and Moose; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A brother in law whom he considered his best friend, Joseph Goodrow pre deceased him. John worked in shipping and receiving most of his life. He began with Parker Manufacturing and Stanley Tools and retired as Shipping/Receiving Supervisor for Toys R Us in Auburn. John's enjoyment came for his enthusiastic love for fishing, his enjoyment of New England Sports especially the Red Sox, and the fulfilling inspiration of spending time with his family. Most notably his grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday July 11th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A prayer service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home.
