Richard M. Kirkpatrick

Richard M. Dick' Kirkpatrick, 89 of Worcester, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at home with his devoted family by his side. Richard is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Claire C. (Johnson) Kirkpatrick; a son, Michael R. Kirkpatrick and his wife Rita of Leicester; a daughter, Nancy M. Kirkpatrick of Auburn; a grandson, Stephen R. Acquista; a great granddaughter, Brooklyn M. Acquista. A sister, Alice Kirkpatrick predeceased him. Richard was born in Worcester, the son of the late Richard D. and Delia M. Brigid' (Laffan) Kirkpatrick and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1940. He then worked at Denholm & McKay Company and in 1943 enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country during WWII. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal. After his tour of duty, he worked for Telechron and then as a construction laborer for various companies. He worked in maintenance at Parker Metal for many years before his retirement. Richard loved bluegrass music and was an accomplished bluegrass guitar player; he enjoyed teaching and playing for others. He also loved fishing, animals, gardening, firearms and Martin guitars. A funeral service for Richard will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 6th from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
