Roger J. Payne, 75 of St. Petersburg, Florida (formerly of 78 Bowker St. Worcester, Ma.) a retired Police Officer for the City Of Worcester passed away peacefully on Monday, June 20th , 2011 in the Veterans Administration Medical Complex in Bay Pines, Florida. He leaves a his son Robert K. Payne and his wife Shannon of Holland, MA.; 2 daughters, Lynne A. Brissette and her husband James of West Boylston; Cheryl A. Payne of Shrewsbury; his former wife of 44 years Sylvia A. Payne of West Boylston; 4 grandchildren Christina and Lindsay Brissette and Matthew and Connor Payne; 5 sisters; Barbara Cameron of St Pete Beach, FL; Gladys Lundberg of St Petersburg, FL; Eleanor Lundberg of Shrewsbury; Agnes Chianese of Auburn; Brenda Payne of Worcester along with many nieces and nephews; He was predeceased by his brother Justin Payne. Roger was born in East Douglas, MA the son of Edgar and Elizabeth Payne. He grew up in Worcester and lived there most of his life. Roger graduated from North High where he was a star halfback when the Polar Bears were a football powerhouse. He was also a member of the Track and Basketball teams. He graduated from Quinsigamond Community College. Roger also served his nation proudly in the US ARMY. Roger was a Police Officer for the City of Worcester for many years before he retired to Florida. He was a big sports fan watching as many games as possible. He enjoyed the warm weather and beautiful sunsets in Florida. He will be missed dearly by his family especially his grandchildren who affectionately called him as PAPA. Calling hours for Roger will be held on Sunday, June 26th , from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 370 PLANTATION ST. WORCESTER. His funeral will be held on Monday, June 27th from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Christopher Church, 950 West Boylston St, Worcester. Entombment in Notre Dame Mausoleum will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Bay Pines VA Healthcare System (135); P.O.
