Peter J. Olivieri, 79 of Worcester passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 22, 2011 in his home. Peter was born February 8th 1932, in Worcester a son of Nicola and Margaret (Bucciaglia) Olivieri. He grew up in Worcester, graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School where he was a standout pitcher on the baseball team. Peter then joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War and has lived here all his life. Peter worked for the Worcester Regional Transit Authority as a route driver more than 32 years before retiring. He notably, new and remembered the people he drove on his routes. Peter is survived by his two devoted children, Peter F. Olivieri and Doreen M. Olivieri both of Worcester; three sisters, Concetta Gibbs and Marguerite Elliott both in Arizona and Marie Ingoglia in California; many nieces nephews, extended family and numerous friends. Three brothers, John, Gasper "Gus" and Antonio "Tony" Olivieri all pre deceased him. Peter was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 22, The Eastside Post 201, American Legion, and the Post 3, Italian-American War Veterans in Worcester. Peter loved his Italian Heritage; he could be seen regularly on Shrewsbury St where he grew up and daily at the Men's Biscgeliese Society, enjoying the company of friends, and a good card game. Peter was an avid pool player and loved sports especially baseball. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, June 26th from 3 pm to 6 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Monday from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be private in St John Cemetery. Member s of the Eastside Post 201, will gather at 5:30 pm, Sunday in the funeral home to conduct their ritual.
